Gerokgak-CV.Putra Bahari Milk Fish Bali received a visit from the Directorate of Business and Investment, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia which has the task of carrying out the formulation and implementation of policies, drafting norms, standards, procedures, and criteria, providing technical guidance and supervision, and evaluating and reporting in the field of increasing business and investment sustainability, including mapping and investment opportunities, services and business partnerships, access to capital, as well as entrepreneurship and marine and fishery business institutions.
This visit was represented by Mr. Wahidin as the Head of Sub-Directorate for Services and Business Partnerships, Ms. Dinar, Head of the Business Partnership and Staff Section on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. This visit was a follow-up to the previous meeting which was held in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan on 7- June 8, 2022 ago. On this occasion, he wanted to see directly the Hatchery belonging to CV. Putra Bahari Milk Fish Bali and various business activity units carried out.
On this auspicious occasion, the Management of CV. Putra Bahari Milk Fish Bali conveyed several things about the potential of the milkfish hatchery business in the Gerokgak District area which still has not received maximum attention from the Government compared to other fishery business sectors, even though the potential for this milkfish hatchery business is very large where Gerokgak is the largest milkfish seed producer in the world.
The milkfish hatchery business is one of the most suitable businesses to be developed as a people-based economy business in line with the program being intensified by the Central Government because this business requires a capital that is not too large but the turnover is relatively short, which is 18-20 days. harvested for sale and this business can also absorb a relatively large workforce and does not really require educational qualifications.
At the time of the implementation of PPKM, many business sectors experienced a decline and not a few employees had to be laid off and even had to be laid off, but the milkfish hatchery business was still able to run stably, even the price of milkfish seeds at that time could actually penetrate the highest point during the export period of the last 20 years
In addition, CV Management. Putra Bahari Milk Fish Bali also conveyed the problems that often become obstacles for milkfish hatchery business actors (nener farmers), namely the problem of price fluctuations which from the past until now still cannot be resolved.
So far, Gerokgak still relies on the export market to market its seed production, which can reach billions of heads every year and the largest export destination country is Manila, the Philippines. Manila absorbs nearly 70% of Gerokgak's milkfish seed production and peak demand is from March to May each year.
During the export period, the price of milkfish seeds will be relatively high, but after an export period of only 3 months, the price of milkfish seeds will tend to fall and even fall very low because the domestic market cannot absorb the resulting seed production. This low price causes the business actors of milkfish hatchery to lose money.
So we hope that through the Directorate of Business and Investment, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, we can formulate policies to help maximize the milkfish hatchery business in Gerokgak District so that it can be even more optimal.
In addition to formulating policies for milkfish hatchery business actors, policies are also needed to maximize consumption milkfish cultivation in Indonesia because the demand for consumption milkfish for export is very high and is a potential business that can be developed.
We are not inferior to the Philippines, which is currently the largest producer of milkfish consumption in the world, Indonesia should also be able to because we have a very large climate and coastal area that can be used as a place for raising milkfish consumption.
If the business of raising milkfish consumption is wider, then this will expand and enlarge the domestic milkfish seed market so that the stability of the market price of milkfish seeds at the end of the export season can last a minimum of Rp. 10/head can be realized
Hopefully, with this visit from stakeholders, our milkfish hatchery business can get even more maximum policy support so that Gerokgak's existence as the world's largest milkfish seed producer will be maintained.
